Event and Holter Monitors

Event Monitoring
An event monitor is a small heart monitor that is worn for 30-days by a patient to record ECG tracings when symptoms occur. Tracings are easily sent from the home via telephone to Sanford Hospital for interpretation.

Holter Monitoring
A holter monitor is a continuous recording, usually 24-hours, of the heart rhythm while a person is doing daily activities.

A physician can order an Event Monitor or Holter Monitor to:
  • Detect arrhythmias that may occur with a single ECG.
  • Assess recurrent symptoms, such as dizziness, palpitations, or fainting spells.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of medications, or pacemakers.
  • Help determine whether areas of the heart do not receive enough blood supply.
An order from your physician must be obtained to make an appointment for an event or holter monitor.
