Event and Holter Monitors
Event MonitoringAn event monitor is a small heart monitor that is worn for 30-days by a patient to record ECG tracings when symptoms occur. Tracings are easily sent from the home via telephone to Sanford Hospital for interpretation.
Holter Monitoring
A holter monitor is a continuous recording, usually 24-hours, of the heart rhythm while a person is doing daily activities.
A physician can order an Event Monitor or Holter Monitor to:
- Detect arrhythmias that may occur with a single ECG.
- Assess recurrent symptoms, such as dizziness, palpitations, or fainting spells.
- Evaluate the efficacy of medications, or pacemakers.
- Help determine whether areas of the heart do not receive enough blood supply.
