Event and Holter Monitors
Event MonitoringAn event monitor is a small heart monitor that is worn for 30 days by a patient to record ECG tracings when symptoms occur. Tracings are easily sent from the home via land line telephone to Sanford Health for interpretation.
Holter Monitoring
A holter monitor is a continuous 24 or 48 hour recording of the heart rhythm while a person is doing daily activities.
A physician can order an Event Monitor or Holter Monitor to:
- Detect arrhythmias
- Assess recurrent symptoms, such as dizziness, palpitations, or fainting spells
- Evaluate medications or pacemakers
- Help determine whether areas of the heart do not receive enough blood supply
