Althletic Training Services

Sanford Sports and Sanford Luverne have partnered to bring Certified Athletic Trainer Jessica Rozell to area high schools to provide sports medicine and athletic training services to athletes.

Jessica graduated from the Huron University in Huron, SD, and is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.

An athletic trainer's main goal is to prevent injuries and do everything possible to keep athletes in their games. One way of doing this is to make sure athletes are well-conditioned and have the needed strength and endurance to compete in their sport(s).

During the summer months, Jessica conducted a Sanford POWER Sports Enhancement Program at the Luverne High School. Student athletes participating in the program attended 90-minute training sessions, three days a week for six weeks. The POWER program included intense exercise protocols including strengthening, speed and agility training drills, and stretching. The Sanford POWER Sports Enhancement Program is available to all area schools.

During the school year, Jessica visits contracted high schools two or three times a week. She encourages athletes to inform her of health concerns and all injuries as soon as possible. Early detection and treatment of injuries are key factors of keeping athletes from becoming unable to compete.

Jessica can effectively wrap and tape athletes' ankles, feet, fingers, etc., before games and competitions. She will be available, as her schedule allows, during football and hockey games and gymnastics and wrestling matches (which are considered "collision sports") to address injuries that may occur. She will provide partial coverage at volleyball and basketball games. Jessica is capable of treating soft tissue injuries, assisting with any rehabilitation needed, and offering expert advice on when athletes should see a physician.

Another service available to student athletes who want to improve their athletic performance and capabilities is one-on-one training. With consent from the athlete's parents and coach, Jessica can work with the athlete to improve in a certain area. For example, if an athlete wishes to improve his/her vertical jump, Jessica can work with the athlete and suggest targeted exercises to help achieve this goal.

Jessica Rozell is backed by an entire health system of medical professionals whose goals are to keep athletes in their games, performing at their best. For more information about athletic training and sports medicine services, call 507-449-1229.
