Incontinence Therapy 

Women's Health
Rehab Services offers treatments for women who experience pain with pregnancy and assists them with physical fitness after the birth of their baby. Information is provided for all new moms who deliver at Sanford Hospital Luverne.
 
Our women's health therapists have specialized training in customizing programs to meet the needs of individual patients. Specialized programs are provided for patients who experience bone loss due to osteoporosis. The treatment programs incorporate exercise, education, the application of external supports, and therapeutic modalities to decrease pain.

Incontinence
Sanford Hospital Luverne offers treatments for women and men who experience urinary incontinence. Treatments have been highly effective for patients with stress incontinence (leaking urine with coughing and/or sneezing), urge incontinence (an urgent need to urinate), mixed incontinence (combination of the previous), and patients with frequent urination patterns. Treatment programs, carried out by occupational or physical therapy, may consist of exercises, biofeedback, electrical stimulation, education, and bladder retraining techniques.

The urinary incontinence treatment programs are successful for over 80% of participating patients!

Our Staff
The Sanford Hospital Luverne Rehabilitation Services Department is staffed by one of the most experienced rehabilitative teams in the area. Our therapists are held to the highest ethical standards, as they are all members of national professional organizations. The rehab team includes: seven physical therapists, two physical therapy assistants, four occupational therapists, one speech language pathologist, three massage therapists, and four rehabilitation aides.

Therapists for incontinence therapy: 

• Jennifer graduated with a master's degree in physical therapy from the College of St. Catherine in 2003. She will complete her doctorate in physical therapy in May 2007. Her areas of special interest are orthopedics and women's health. Her most recent training involves evaluation and treatment of the shoulder, ergonomics for nursing homes, and wound management. 
• Pat graduated with a master's degree in physical therapy from Des Moines University in 1998. She completed her doctorate in physical therapy in 2004 through Des Moines University. Her areas of special interest are orthopedics, geriatrics, ergonomic evaluation/education, and wound care. She is also the Rehab Outreach Coordinator. Pat provides services to long term care facilities in the area. She promotes geriatric rehabilitation to preserve or restore function, maximize life satisfaction, enhance psychological well being, and maintain the social status of older persons. Her most recent training includes course work on wound care; evaluation; treatment of the shoulder; coding, billing, and documentation for rehab; and the safe skin initiative (preventing pressure ulcers).

Our Rehabilitation Services Department prides itself in providing the highest level of care and an expedient path to recovery for its patients.
